Some grips chase a gimmick, the Orange/Black ProTaper Pillow Top just chases fit and feel. The traction pattern is exclusive to ProTaper, and the surface compound has a gel-like give to it that separates it from the harder rubber grips most bikes ship with from the factory.
The triple density construction is what makes this grip last longer than a single-compound design. The inner layer is formulated to bond tightly to the handlebar so it will not spin loose, the body uses a gel-like, vibration-reducing surface compound for comfort, and the Anti-Rip tip runs a high-durometer compound right where grips normally wear through first.
