On an 80 or 100 cc machine there is very little flywheel effect and a narrow usable powerband, so countershaft gearing decides whether a young rider can carry momentum out of a tight corner or has to fan the clutch to keep the engine alive. Fitting the correct sprocket restores crisp drive off the bottom and keeps the bike in its strongest part of the rev range between shifts. The lighter 420 chain and sprocket combination also reduces rotating mass, which matters enormously on a mini bike where every gram affects acceleration.
