The 8 Ball design uses a higher ball count in the joint to spread load across more contact points, with heat-treated shafts and sealed boots packed with high-temperature grease, so it survives the plunge and articulation angles a long-travel side-by-side sees at full droop. Stock axles usually die at the boot first: it tears, grease flings out, grit gets into the cage and the joint starts clicking in turns before it finally lets go under throttle. A stronger replacement holds torque at extreme angles, so power gets to the wheel without binding when you are climbing rocks at lock or landing a whoop with one wheel unloaded. Check the boot clamps after a few hard rides, since a loose clamp kills a healthy axle.
