Description
Ultra-Tacky is not a marketing name Renthal slapped on lightly. The G197 uses a softer, stickier compound formula on the outer layer than their standard dual compound grips, bonded over the same firm supporting core, so you get noticeably more feel and hold in the palm without sacrificing the structural durability that keeps a grip from spinning under load. This is the standard, non-tapered version in the half waffle pattern, finished in black to go with just about any bike.
Where a single compound grip forces a choice between plush and durable, Renthal builds the G197 in two layers. The outer sleeve is soft and genuinely tacky against bare skin or thin gloves, which matters most in the last ten minutes of a moto when your forearms are pumped and your grip strength is fading. Underneath, a firmer compound core resists the torsional twisting that wears out cheaper single-density grips within a few rides.
- Ultra-Tacky outer compound for maximum hand feel and hold
- Firm inner core resists twisting and ballooning under load
- Half waffle texture pattern for traction in mud and loose dirt
- Standard straight barrel profile, no taper
- Black colorway, sold as a pair
These install like any standard MX grip, sliding or gluing onto a 7/8 inch handlebar with grip glue and safety wire recommended for race use. Because the compound is genuinely tackier than Renthal’s standard dual compound line, expect a slightly shorter service life on rough, abrasive terrain in exchange for noticeably better control. If your hands slide around on the bar in wet conditions, this is the grip built to stop that from happening.
