The Red ProTaper Tri Density MX grip gets around that tradeoff by using three separate densities in one molded unit instead of picking a single compromise.
The inner core compound is formulated specifically to perfect the bonding interface with your handlebar, so the grip stays put instead of spinning loose over rough terrain. The Anti-Rip Tip on the clutch side uses a denser compound exactly where grips typically fail first, and the outer surface is a tacky, gel-like compound that cuts down on arm fatigue over a long ride.
