Each kit rebuilds the vacuum-operated petcock with a new diaphragm, seals, o-rings and the small internals that control whether fuel flows only when the engine asks for it. When that diaphragm cracks, one of two things happens, and neither is good: the tap stops opening and the bike starves at high rpm on the top half of the tank, or it leaks past and siphons fuel into the intake, filling a cylinder and washing down the oil while the bike sits. Rebuilding the valve restores clean full-flow delivery, protects the engine from a hydrolocked start, and stops the fuel smell in the garage. A working vacuum petcock also means you can trust the reserve position on a long ride. Rebuild the tap with the tank empty, and blow the vacuum line clear while you are in there.
